Today, We held English discussion activity "Express Yourself in English !" which is intended to enjoy small talk "Zatsu-Dan" in English, through listening to, talking about and singing a song in English, which lead by Yuko-san, a Jazz singer.

Today's theme song was "Sing", again.



"Sing" is a 1971 song written by Joe Raposo for the children's television show Sesame Street.
In 1973, the song gained popularity when performed by the Carpenters, who made it a #3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

Raposo was one of the staff songwriters on Sesame Street, and the song became one of the most popular on the program, sung in English, Spanish, and sign language. In its initial appearance, the song was sung by adult human cast members of the show and Muppets, including Big Bird.

Today's discussion theme was "sing".
The question was "Do you sing ? When ? What kind of sing ? How often ?".

I feel nostalgic for the times when I heard it well when I listen to music.
In Japanese "Natsukasii（懐かしい）" are "It takes me back" in English.
By the everyone's answer to various questions, our discussion became lively today!

I thought, "the hearing is easy because "Sing" is simple lyrics". 

But there was a part hard to catch up with listening to Yuklo-san sang.

Doing was really different from imagining !

It was a good lesson for me.

Yuko-san advised difference in pronunciation to us;
 Sing of good things not bad
and
 Sing, sing a song Make it simple to last your whole life long

As it was popular that Carpenters sang "Sing", I thought that it was the original piece of music of Carpenters, but, actually, was different. 
"Sing" is a song written by Joe Raposo for the children's television show, Sesami Street in 1971.
Sesami Street is a long-running American children's television series, which premiered on November 10, 1969.
A 1996 survey found that 95% of all American prechoolers had watched the show by the time they were three years old. In 2008, it was estimated that 77 million Americans had watched the series as children.
Wow!

We did group discussion today.

The first question was
 "Do you remember any song you used to sing when you were a child ?"

In the answer, unexpectedly, there were some popular songs for adult.

In the days of our child, It might be the time when popular song had no difference in generation. 

Then we discussed as follows;
 Do you think that children are different today from the time when you were child ?
 What is the most important thing that we need to teach children ?
 What are the most important lessongs to teach young children at home ?

からさらに一歩進んで、「英語を使って会話する」ことを体得できるクラブ活動です。
ひとつのテーマについて話す「ディスカッションスタイル」の会話は、英語でスモールトークをする時にとても役立つ会話法です。
当クラブ活動では、ジャズやフォークのスタンダードナンバーをテーマとして使いながら、テーマの歌の歌詞をヒアリングで聞き取り、発音に気をつけて実際に歌い、その歌にまつわるパラグラフをもとに実際に英語で会話を行うことを通じて、「ディスカッションのノウハウ」をジャズシンガーの古山 祐子さんに教えていただきます。
ディスカッションできるスキルは、英語を使った会話においてはもちろん、日本語を使った会話のスキルアップにつながると実感できる、会話力アップにお薦めのアクティヴィティです。

本日、４月８日（金）に開催します。
今回のテーマソングは「Sing」です。
カーペンターズのオリジナルソングとしてヒットした曲です。
一体どんな歌詞なのでしょうか？
そしてどんなディスカッションが用意されるのでしょうか？
