Today, We held English discussion activity "Express Yourself in English !" which is intended to enjoy small talk "Zatsu-Dan" in English, through listening to, talking about and singing a song in English, which lead by Yuko-san, a Jazz singer.

Today's theme song was "My Favorite Things".
"My Favorite Things" is a show tune from the musical The Sound of Music.
By the movie, it is sung in the scene where children who are afraid of thunder come over to the bedroom of the Maria (Julie Andrews).
This song is known as standard number of the jazz, and was covered by John Coltrane, and so many musician.
In Japan, it is known as the CM song of the sightseeing campaign of Central Japan Railway "Oh! I will go Kyoto."
The lyrics to the song are a reference to things Maria loves, such as "whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens". These are the things she selects to fill her mind with when times are bad.
The original music is three beats.
So when sing this song; it is easy to sing with conscious " one, two, three, one, two, three,".
And Yuko-san gave us the advice "giving stress for a sound of "s" and "t", to sing this song in rhythmically "
Today's discussion theme was "my favorite things".
The question was
"How do they make you feel ?".
"Can you explain why you like them ?".
"What do they remind you of ?".
There were some surprise, and there were some sympathy.
